America’s Research Community Speaks Out
Video editorials tell Congress: Save research funding; stop the budget sequester
When Congress passed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) and averted the threatened“fiscal cliff,” it left in place the budget sequester, simply delaying its implementation by two months. The budget sequester – the across-the-board cuts to discretionary spending required under the BudgetControl Act of 2011 – will automatically take effect March 1, 2013 if Congress doesn’t act to repeal it.
Members of America’s research community are speaking out in defense of funding for scientific and medical research. The videos on this page illustrate the breadth of concern and the far-reaching impact that the cuts imposed by the sequester – on top of the annual spending caps already imposed by theBudget Control Act – will have on America’s ability to discover, innovate, educate and maintain our scientific and technological leadership.
